Understand Where You Are Now
If you are not sure where you stand or want more clarity about what part of your life you need to be coached on, use the satisfaction wheel as a starting point. In the exercise you will rate your level of satisfaction of each life category on a scale of 1 (unsatisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied). This exercise is short and sweet, and designed to help you find clarity on where you are now, what sections of your life you’re satisfied with, and that parts you hope to change. I hope you enjoy this exercise.....you never know, you might just discover something new about yourself!
FAQs
How many sessions should I need?
The short answer is: it depends! Some of the factors that can affect your timeline are the complexity of your original topic, whether or not new areas to focus on are uncovered by our work, and your commitment to doing the work and making changes.
What can I do on my own time to help with the process?
Often, at the end of a coaching session you will have “homework”. The homework will generally be determined by you based on the work we did in your session and what you think will help you move closer to your goal. Don’t worry - you won’t be tested!
How do I know if this is right for me?
If you are open to digging deep and uncovering the often subconscious thoughts and stories that hold you back from reaching your full potential and will commit to putting in the work to break down and break through these barriers, coaching might be right for you. But, it’s not all about you; coaching works best when you have a good connection with your coach. If your coach can make you feel safe, heard and challenged, there is no limit to what you will be able to achieve.
How long is a session, and what can I expect?
A regular session is about an hour. At the beginning, you will get to set the agenda for what you want to work on and then the majority of the session will be spent using tools and asking questions to help you work through the issue you brought to the session or any secondary issues that might be uncovered. The last 10-15 minutes will be spent recapping the session and potentially designing homework for you to work on until our next session.
What do I need to prepare in advance?
There isn’t really preparation for the first session, just come with an idea or two of what area of your life you would like to work through. If you’re not sure and want a tool to help you hone in on a specific part of your life, please use the worksheet as a place to start and see what unfolds as you work through the exercise.
What is the difference between a therapist and a coach?
Good question. The easiest way to think about it is that an athlete goes to a doctor to get or stay healthy, but they use a coach to reach their full potential. A therapist helps a client work through past pain, hurt or medical issues until they are healthy. A coach helps that healthy person focus on the future and how they can live the life of their dreams. It is also not uncommon for a client to work simultaneously with a therapist and a coach or for a coach to refer a client to a therapist to work on underlying issues.
